Clipart for new year for kindergarten google search teacher

I will be posting a weekly choice board of activities to our class webpage every Sunday night.  These choice boards will include review activities for each subject area.  Your child can choose a few activities each day from any column.  Please remember this is all review material and it is optional.  The choice board will be in a folder at the bottom of our webpage.  The folder will include any documents that are mentioned on the choice board.
I will hold a weekly class meeting each Thursday at 10:00 am via email or Zoom.  I will email you with details prior to this activity.  My office hours each week will be Tuesdays from 10:00 - 11:00 am.  You can reach me by email with any questions during that time.  Please stay safe and healthy!

There are many wonderful activities students can be doing at home to support learning.  Below are some suggestions by curriculum area.

The best thing your child can be doing at home is continuing to read as much as possible.  Discovering new books and rereading favorite titles are both beneficial.  After finishing a story, build comprehension skills by asking your child questions about the story.

We have been working on the following skills.
1. Retell the story including all the important details.
2. Relate the story to yourself.  How are you like the characters or have you done some of the things that happened in the story?
3. Setting: Where and when did the story take place?
4. Characters:  Who are the people or animals in the story?

At the bottom of our class webpage is a link for Fundations at Home where there are suggestions of activities to review skills to support phonemic awareness.

Mixing up the words on your child's word ring will help challenge the students and help them recognize the words in any order.  I have added lists of the sight words to this page for anyone who needs a new copy or is ready for the next level.

I have added a file with a list of journal topics to the bottom of this webpage to help your child continue writing at home.  We often give the students a topic but encouraging them to come up with their own idea is even better!  Listed below are goals we have been working on during our writing block.  Continuing to practice writing the sight words from our spelling calendar will also support the mastery of reading and writing sight words.

Writing Goals include:

· Writing left to right and top to bottom.
· Using letters to phonetically spell unknown words including beginning, middle, and ending sounds. Students have been taught to tap words out using their fingers.
· Using correct spelling for common sight words (word ring and spelling test words).
· Using spaces in between words.
· Working towards our goal of more than one sentence about the same topic.
· Writes first and last name with correct capitalization.

Below is a list of skills that were part of our calendar routine.  Reviewing these at home would be very beneficial for your child.

1.  Counting by 1’s and 10’s to 100 as well as backwards from 20-1.
2.  Recognizing the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter as well as their value.
3.  Naming the 7 days of the week and the 12 months of the year.

Basic addition and subtraction story problems.

Dreambox Math is a wonderful website to support the students in math. The following link has a number of math apps we use at school that you are able to download for free.

Playing board games and card games can you’re your child practice his or her math skills.  While playing, you can ask questions such as, “How many more do you need to get to the finish line?  What number comes after (next)? What number comes before the number on the card you turned over?  Have your child sort, name, and describe coins.
