Vision Statement: Glenkirk Elementary School Counseling Program

Students of Glenkirk Elementary School are proactive, able to set and meet goals, and achieve high academic standards in an ever-changing career landscape.  Students are resilient, have a growth mindset, and demonstrate interpersonal skills that will enable them to be lifelong problem solvers both academically and socially. These 21st century skills enable students to build career skills that will prepare them to be citizens in a diverse, technologically expanding, and ever-changing world.  The school counselors collaborate with students, staff, parents and stakeholders to facilitate success for all students to ensure that when they are here, and in the future, they are their best.

Belief Statement: Glenkirk Elementary School Counseling Program

The Professional School Counselors at Glenkirk Elementary School, believe that:

  • Each student is a unique individual with diverse needs, talents, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Students need to develop cultural awareness and competencies to be effective in a diverse and global community.
  • All students should be given the tools and support to achieve academic success.
  • All students will have equal access and rights to participate in a school counseling program that is comprehensive in scope, preventive in design, and developmental in nature.
  • A comprehensive school counseling program plays an integral role in the development and well-being of all students.
  • The school counselors should incorporate technology to deliver a program that inspires and informs students and prepares them for careers of the future.
  • Data generated by the School Counseling Department will be reviewed collaboratively by the school counselors, administration and advisory council and will be used to inform and drive the school counseling program.
  • School Counselors should adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the American School Counselor Association.
  • The Glenkirk Elementary School counseling program should be delivered by full-time, state-certified, master’s-degree-level school counselors.

The Glenkirk Elementary School Counseling program promotes academic, career and social/emotional development of all students, providing a world-class education through a collaborative effort with students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members. Given the diverse population of Glenkirk Elementary School, the counseling program provides equitable access to all students regardless of sex, race, ethnic background, socioeconomic class or learning ability, preparing students for lifelong success as responsible members of the local, national and global communities.
