Rising 6th Graders Tdap Reminder
Dear Parents/Guardians of Rising 6th Grade Students:

This is a reminder that Virginia law now requires all students to have a booster dose of the tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine  before entering the 6th grade. Experts say the Tdap booster  gives adolescents added protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (better known as whooping cough).  These potentially serious ailments are largely preventable with proper vaccination.

Children must meet all Virginia school immunization requirements, and the law changed in 2014 to require Tdap vaccination of all sixth graders, including those under the age of 11. If you have not already done so, please arrange for the Tdap booster for your child as soon as possible to fulfill Virginia requirements and avoid the last-minute rush that often occurs over the summer.

Tdap boosters may be obtained from your doctor, military clinics, or the Prince William Health District, who will provide written documentation that the requirement has been met.

Please send the documentation of this vaccine to the school nurse.  She will notify your child’s middle school that he/she has received the vaccine.  This will ensure there will be no delay your child’s admission to middle school on their important first day.
